Self-Defense Class & Trigger Point Therapy
Martial Arts and East Asian medicine have worked together for centuries to improve recovery, prevent injuries, and support long-term training. KajukenboNYC and Grand Madison Acupuncture have collaborated to present a practical workshop to learn basic self-defense skills and pain management using acupuncture and self-care techniques.
Using neuroscience principles to accelerate learning, this practical 1-hour Self-Defense class is based on two different martial arts styles known as Kajukenbo and Balintawak. It will teach basic movement and footwork, defensive and offensive techniques, and improvised weapons. Kajukenbo is a hybrid martial art consisting of a combination of Korean KArate and Boxing, JUdo and JUjutsu, KENpo and Chinese BOxing.
Followed by a 1-hour workshop on Trigger Point Therapy incorporating Gua Sha and Dry Needling. The workshop will teach how to safely and effectively use a gua sha tool to treat any type of pain. Participants will have the option to have one area of pain treated with dry needling acupuncture. Dry needling is an effective way to release tight muscles and treat acute or chronic pain.
